HAPPY SPRING…ALLERGIES…IN DENVER…AND EVERYWHERE!

Many people suffer from runny noses, sore throats and burning eyes as trees bud and grasses turn green. On the physical level, a nice seasonal cleanse often helps. You have probably raked your grass and cleaned out your gardens. You can do the same for your body!  Reducing your intake of caffeine, refined products of any kind and dairy offers the body relief from having to process hidden toxins. That means increasing your intake of delicious, whole grains and organic fruits and veggies. Yum! I promise, once your system is free to enjoy these, your happiness level goes up! To energize yourself and detox the liver at the same time, try 8 ounces of pure water with the juice of half a lemon squeezed into it. I know this sounds counter-intuitive, but especially if you have acid reflux, this drink may help–lemon juice is alkalinizing.

On the level of your mind and spirit, please remember that we are part of nature. Have you noticed how hard the ground outside is just after the winter thaw? Imagine yourself as a seedling: you have been in the deep darkness all winter, and now it is time to push up through the soil. Hard work! And now, nourishing ourselves just like we do our gardens, we have the opportunity to grow tall and beautiful. Taking exquisite care of yourself includes setting aside at least 10 minutes each day to do whatever you think of as a meditative practice. This can be anything from sitting on a cushion to walking in the park. Whatever you choose, let yourself experience the practice fully, with all of your attention. Watch what happens–this is joy inducing!

If you have a regular yoga practice, now is the time for some lovely twists. Wringing out the last energy of winter opens you to align for optimal change.

Let me know what you do to support yourself through this change of season. I will post some of your replies here!

Namaste, l’shalom.
